In the spring of 2019, Jersey City-based singer/songwriter/guitarist Michael Hilliard was gettin’ the itch. He had a passel of song demos – meaty, melodic rock tunes with heartfelt lyrics and a dusting of jazz on top – that he was confident the area club crowds would enjoy. But just sitting on a stool by himself held no appeal for Hilliard – he needed a BAND, dammit. So, like hundreds of neighborhood musicians before and since, Hilliard put up a “musicians wanted” post on Craig’s List. And in Bayonne, one town over from Jersey City, bassist Robert Payes – himself itching to play out again after far too many years – shot Hilliard a response. After some back-and-forth correspondence, Hilliard shared his demos with Payes to learn, and set up an audition. By the time the two rendezvoused in a local rehearsal studio, there was now a third person: Staten Island-based drummer Louis Iacobelli, who was already splitting his time between FIVE other bands! But the trio – now operating as “Michael Hilliard and the Working Class” – clicked almost immediately, both as musicians and buds, equally at home pounding out Hilliard’s songs in downtown Jersey City’s clubs, or just chilling at the bar, sucking down cold ones and scoping out the competition. On February 1, 2020, the Hilliard/Payes/Iacobelli edition of the Working Class played what would turn out to be their final performance together. Earlier that day, news of the untimely passing of Gang of Four guitarist/leader Andy Gill had already put a cloud over the proceedings – but before long, the growing menace of the COVID-19 pandemic shut EVERYTHING down. As spring 2020 turned to summer, then fall, Hilliard launched the next phase of the Working Class’ career: he liquidated a sizable savings account and hired producer John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr.) to record enough of his music to release a full CD. Unfortunately, by that time Iacobelli had to bow out for personal reasons, but new drummer Pete Dentico stepped up to the plate and filled the empty spot without (you’ll pardon the pun) “missing the beat.” Sound good? We thought so... until we found out that Pete had abruptly lit out for the West Coast. ...It is now 2023. We are - some higher power, we beseech - exiting the Plague. The drum stool is now occupied by Corey Jenkins, an old friend of Michael's from Rockland County. The questions: What's still open? What's everyone feel like doing? Does anyone still WANT to hear (and see!) live music? We'd like to think so. In April 2022, we debuted the music video for "Pour Me a Drink," shot on location in Hoboken, NJ's Finnigan's Pub by Courtney Collins (Non-Linear Knitting). From there, the plans remain the same: Rehearse. Write more songs. Play more live gigs. Lather/rinse/repeat. Because THAT's what the Working Class do.

Shared truth, delivered and triggered by melodies, experienced as one, emanating from a deep, russet realm. Genres groomed together to represent and inquire the soul. A different kind of symphony, hopeful enough to grow our empathy, “part political activism, part hopefulness, part performance art, part soundscapes, and all entirely mesmerizing.” (John Sinkevics, Local Spins) Emotional energy crafted from integrity, immaterial and immortal, experienced at the speed of sound, with a bit of bounce, groove by the ounce, and all the jump you’ll need to move.

Blending elements of folk, country, and mellow indie/pop, Christopher Morse’s music has evolved into a rich soundscape that listeners can really sink their teeth into.

At the young age of 10, Morse became a literal choir boy after auditioning for the American Boychoir School (ABS). With ABS, he toured the country, sang with the New York Philharmonic, and performed at Carnegie Hall - all while taking classes on the tour bus. While on the road, he saw Colorado for the first time, but never expected to make the move out West.

After the boychoir, Morse discovered John Mayer’s Room For Squares, which led to him picking up a guitar for the first time. Before long he was writing songs to share with friends and family and started playing in local coffee shops. He gradually expanded his reach to playing in larger venues from Washington DC to New York City. During that time, Morse graced the stages of many legendary venues including The Tin Angel in Philadelphia and Rockwood Music Hall in NYC. Since moving to Colorado, Christopher has made his Nashville debut at the legendary Music Row Freak Show writers rounds and has played stages across Colorado, including Roots Music Project, The Lodge at Woods Boss, and the Boulder Theater.

Rose Paradise:

Rose Paradise bottles the feeling of a 1970’s California road trip - driving down the coast, beneath orange and pink skies. In search of America, you stumble upon utopia, or perhaps it’s paradise...
Growing up in a small town in Northern California, she channeled her childhood surroundings into a blissful blend of folk and country. Embracing the honky-tonk energy of Nashville country, sweet-like-honey harmonies of Laurel Canyon, and gritty storytelling of the Greenwich Village folk scene, Rose Paradise is everything you love about Americana.

But amidst the flowers and mermaids exists a rawness to her sound she conjured in her years performing in the dive bars and gritty night clubs of New York City. Make no mistake: Rose Paradise is a folk singer who stage dives, moshes, and can send a crowd buck-wild. The tangible chemistry of her band and captivating performances has made her a staple of the downtown live music circuit. In March 2024, she took her band to Stinson Beach, California to record her debut studio album “Over The Hill” ...

“The title of this album is inspired by my upbringing in my small town. Growing up, in order to get to the gas station, the supermarket, or even my high school, I had to take the 30 minute journey over the winding roads of Mount Tamalpais, or to those who know, ‘Over The Hill.’”

The California chanteuse is poised for her biggest year yet, with upcoming shows at Bowery Ballroom and a hometown show at The Independent. Her 2023 singles “Take Me With You” and “Year of the Dog” hint at the emotions and imagery her forthcoming album “Over The Hill” will evoke. “It’s all happening...”

Being influenced by The Who itself, lead vocalist/guitarist Mike Kosturko produces an infectious brand of memorable songs. Lisa Cinotti, a committed disciple of rhythmic progression, lays down meaty yet melodic bass lines, which holds the band's sound together. While commanding a solid tempo, drummer Ron Pasanda adds a flourish of strategically placed fills, without disrupting the songs relevance. While enjoying the recording process, playing live is what a band thrives on. Violin, Guitar, and vocals: the bread and butter that makes Piatt who he is. These skills and talents take the forefront of his new, self-titled album "Piatt Pund" with a combination of Blues/Rock, Jazz, and Soul. Pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a multi-instrumentalist is what Piatt has set out to do with his career. Ranging from Classical to Jazz education, along with bluegrass and pop, all of these genres can be heard clearly within the nuance of his tone and soul. Piatt started his journey in music with a cardboard violin at the age of four. At the age of seven, he picked up the ukulele. From there, his musical interests cascaded forward picking up the mandolin at 13 years-old, the Irish Bouzouki, Dulcimer, Bass Guitar, and Guitar at 14, and finally the Harmonica at 17. These instruments have shaped how he thinks about music, not only arrangement wise, but also how to break the boundaries of what fits the genre he is going for. Hailing from Boulder, CO, Piatt began classical training for the violin. After living in the Centennial State for 12 years, he moved with his family to sunny San Diego, CA. This is where Piatt became involved within his beach community and joined several local bands, as well as formed his duo with his brother. Going into high school, he became exposed to American Roots music and became infatuated with the blues and how it has shaped American history. Piatt found his soul within the blues and plans to take it to new heights.

Adoraborealis' debut album, "Live and in Two Persons," recorded at the iconic Rockwood Stage 2, earned acclaim for it's poignant melodies, profound wordplay, and a rare amalgamation of influences ranging from Cat Stevens and Jeff Buckley to Paul Simon, Vampire Weekend, Randy Newman, and David Bowie.

Guitars and emotive vocals take center stage, dancing amidst swirling prog chords and Latin grooves. The band's lyrical prowess champions the enduring strength of love, triumphing over heartbreak, loss, and the pangs of isolation, delivering soul-soothing compositions that resonate universally.

Mike Messer, a luminary known for his earlier exploits with "The Dirty Sock Funtime Band" and his contributions to Nickelodeon, Sesame Street, and FX's "Sex Drugs and Rock n Roll," has etched his mark in the fabric of the NYC live music scene. Beyond his musical endeavors, Mike boasts a storied career as an actor on Off-Broadway stages and a globe-trotting performer. As the voice behind the best selling Tonies  new original content, the theme song of the international hit cartoon "Super Wings”, ads for the NY Times, Bank of Boston, and as the hapless “Nate the IT Guy” in the Wasabi Technologies commercials, Mike's artistry echoes across continents.

Born as a recording project during the pandemic, Adoraborealis blossomed into a beacon of positivity through Messer’s daily online "Cooped Up Concerts," offering solace to those grappling with isolation. Since the world reopened its doors, Adoraborealis has graced the airwaves of Sirius XM radio, the Dumbo Vinyls Renaissance Radio Show, featured on podcasts "The Long Island Sound" and "Comics who love Comics," headlined shows in Los Angeles and New York, and found a home at Rockwood for a series of monthly performances in 2023.

Adoraborealis invites you on a musical odyssey that defies boundaries, captivating audiences with its distinctive blend of indie prog folk, rock, and world music. Through vivid imagery, introspective reflection, and an unwavering connection to the human experience, Adoraborealis crafts a sonic journey that resonates deeply with hearts and minds alike.

WALTER SALAS-HUMARA (of THE SILOS) waltersalashumara.com Walter’s musical career started with The Silos, the still-kicking band Salas-Humara co-founded in New York’s post-punk ‘80s scene. Playing alt-country before anyone called it that, they were named Best New Artist in the 1987 Rolling Stone Critics Poll. Throughout Salas-Humara’s career his voice has remained textured like a walnut; meanwhile, his narratives focus not on interior, abstract weaves of doubts and anxieties but on storytelling. He renders small incidents in granular detail that take on the weight of attentive, convincing poetry and wry wordplay. Each tune is marked by such humanity, which offers much refuge in a convulsive time. Salas-Humara’s legacy would seem secure; his name is on 24 albums, his Horse Paintings hang in homes and galleries around the world, and his WaltersDogs portraits even appeared in the film Get Him to the Greek. but he’s hardly ready to call it a day. “It's still really fun for me,” he says of his musical pursuits. “In fact, I'm much happier than I've ever been in my life. I really enjoy traveling around entertaining. I see myself as an artist, but I also see myself as a communicator and entertainer — and teacher and mentor. And I love that. Back in the day, the Silos just blasted everybody's faces off. We hardly talked at all. Now, I play a songs, I tell stories. Then I hang out after.” Salas-Humara might have attended art school at Pratt Institute, but his songs feel shaped by low-key vistas of everyday life. Of that era, Salas-Humara recounts: “I learned a lot about design, conceptual ideas, and the history of art. I think that has helped me bring a unique character to my music and art, but it’s being out there on the road, just playing and playing, singing and singing, connecting with audiences, trying new shit out, that has made me a not only a better entertainer, but a better person.” In doing so, he has imbued his tunes with a slightly grass-worn, wandering Western vibe and a relaxed and open-ended ambience. Plus, they teem with a bounty of hooks and grooves that never distract from his musical portraits. The space-time of Salas-Humara is not a Technicolor world, or a green screen world of hyped fakery, it’s a workaday world, paced as such, in which home and heart are the iconography of inspiration, played with pluck and gravelly insight. Or, as Walter suggests, “One’s environment and one’s experiences always informs one’s songwriting. This happens naturally whether you like it or not. Songs are life, and my life has been just one very long song.” Much. much more info, music and art at waltersalashumara.com
