The Mint Imperials formed in New York City in 2006, when guitarist/songwriter Adam Levy was assembling a band to record his Washing Day album. The trio — featuring bassist Andy Hess and drummer Tony Mason — has played numerous live shows together since then, and released two subsequent recordings, including a live session from the famed Sun Records studio in Memphis, Tennessee.
